Job Opening: Financial Director – Family Crisis Center

Exempt Full Time.  Salary $75,000 year.

Bastrop, Texas

Monday through Friday with some weekends/evenings.  In office position.

The mission of the Family Crisis Center is to be the expert resource and service provider in eliminating domestic and sexual violence in Bastrop, Colorado, Fayette and Lee counties.

Purpose/Overview: This position is responsible for maintaining the agency’s accounting database and all related accounting practices. This position provides the day-to-day consolidation, coding, data entry, and filing of the agency’s financial records and works with the Executive Director to ensure financial compliance with all grant and other financial reporting expectations and standards.  This position must exercise discretion and independent judgment in the execution of primary duties and make recommendations to the Executive Director for review.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for supervising financial staff and may be required to supervise interns and volunteers assigned to job related projects.

Qualifications/Experience Expected: 5 or more years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or Business.  A degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred. MIP software and Non-profit accounting experience preferred.

All employees must pass the Center’s Texas Criminal Background Check requirements and a Sex Offender Registry Check. Persons in this position must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation with proof of proper auto liability insurance coverage.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure fiscal accountability and compliance with Board approved financial policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the agency annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director and agency leadership; keep the finance committee of the Board of Directors and leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status; and manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Develop and present agency financial documents to the Board of Directors including balance sheets, statements of revenues and expenditures, and budget comparisons.
  • Plan and develop program and grant budgets, budget revisions, and budget projections.
  • Develop appropriate investment strategies and oversee their implementation and support agency’s strategic planning process.
  • Direct and manage the annual audit process and internal reviews and liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Provide daily supervision to finance staff and manage accounting database and all related accounting practices and timelines.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices and improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual. Create financial policies and procedures that are with aligned with Government Auditing Standards, Single Audit Act and any subsequent Amendments, 2CFR 200 and other sections as they apply, Texas Administrative Code, and all guidelines set forth in contracts with funding agencies.
  • Remain up-to-date on best practices in nonprofit finance, business systems, and internal control measures, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
  • Work cooperatively with governmental agencies and other funders on financial reporting, compliance monitoring, and audits.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Support special events and fundraising activities of the agency in conjunction with staff and Board of Directors.
  • Cross train with administrative staff, provide support to administrative staff members, and assist in meeting the administrative needs of the agency.

Leadership Team Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate collaboratively with the Leadership Team in developing and maintaining all programs and services of the Center.
  2. Participate in short and long-range planning activities to ensure quality service delivery; enhance or expand existing programs; and/or develop and implement new services/programs.
  3. Monitor team expenditures and mileage reimbursement requests to ensure fiscal accountability.
  4. Provide disciplinary actions for assigned staff under the guidance of the Executive Director.
  5. Address, immediately, all significant staff concerns, assertions of sexual harassment, or violations of the law or of Center policies.
  6. Maintain positive relationships with partner agencies and community representatives.
  7. Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and contracts as requested by Executive Director and/or the Grants Manager.
  8. Represent the Center at community and agency events when required.
