A slogan that I especially like is from my church, "Peace begins with me." If I want to stop violence in all its many forms, I have to be aware of my own behavior and anything that needs to be changed in me.

I am an incest survivor. This is my first visit to your website. I will return to explore more. Thank you for the work that you do. I blog about healing from incest.

Thanks for the comment Adam. I absolutely agree with you. Every political season brings with it new record breaking mudslinging. This year will more than likely be over the top. I hope through the mud are issues the public can actually decide on.

Yeah you're absolutely right! People tend to lag behind when it comes to talks on politics, religion and money matters. Simply because these topics often stirs up arguments and the like. With regards to political candidates, may we all root for someone who is not just plain rhetoric but someone who's more on action.

I wish voters in my district...and every other one...would send this article to their congress person and tell them that we want them to read, pay close attention and vote to reauthorize VAWA now. I plan to do that.

In regard to the Doonesbury cartoon, I'm not sure I agree that the comparison to rape is off base. I might feel differently about it being called rape in a literal sense, but I think that because it's a political cartoon and therefore clearly satirical, it makes an effective point. Yes, transvaginal sonograms are safe and common, but is that really the issue? If a woman doesn't want one and it isn't medically necessary, I think it's a serious violation of her bodily autonomy to force her to endure a vaginal probe because she wants to exercise her right to an abortion. After all, sex is also "common and safe," but it becomes rape when the victim doesn't consent.

I work with children and youth here in Costa Rica. I have been working with SeedsofHope.org and Salvandocorazones.org. We are encouraging awareness to prevent, protect, and prosecute sexual offenders here in CR. Please keep me posted on what you are doing. I would also like any material you have in Spanish.
As a stalking survivor, I find this extremely troubling. I was stalked by my ex-significant other at work, home and everywhere in between. I was very fortunate that my employer stood behind me and offered support and extra safety measures even when the law couldn't help me. I wish Ms. Martin all the best and I hope they understand this isn't the joke most people make it out to be. It's serious and can be fatal, no one should ever have to go through the trauma of stalking.

Great post - thanks for the information about Title IX. It is a shame that the school has continued to respond in an insensitive way, and has not seized this opportunity to educate more students, instead of shutting down their education on sexual violence.
