Wal-Mart’s response about stalking shirt
Filed Under Uncategorized | By Melissa Heald | Comments Off
We blogged about a shirt being sold at Wal-Mart with the phrase “Some call it stalking, I call it love” in October. Here’s an update with Wal-Mart’s response to the National Center for Victims of Crime when they complained about it.
Thank you for writing to Lee Scott to express your concerns about Wal-Mart selling t-shirts displaying the phrase “Some call it stalking, I call it love.” We appreciate your input and share your concerns for the victims of stalking and domestic violence. It is not our desire to encourage or make light of such a serious issue through the sale of any products we carry. Serving the many working families and communities who have placed their trust in us is both a responsibility and a top priority for our company, and one we do not take lightly.
When concerns were first raised in September about these t-shirts, we took a number of steps to remedy the situation. We issued a register restriction immediately, preventing any of the shirts from being sold. We also directed stores to remove the shirts from store shelves and return them to the supplier. We do not plan to stock the item in the future.
Again, we appreciate your concerns.
Sincerely,
Susann Saronitman
Director, Executive Communications
